MARIE DRESSLER VISITS VICTORIA HALL … AND STAYS

Cobourg, ON –

The Board of Directors of Marie Dressler Foundation is excited to announce the donation and installation of a framed photograph of Marie Dressler in Victoria Hall.

The photograph honors the achievements of the Cobourg-born star of stage and screen, winner of the 1931 Academy Award for Best Actress at age 63, top grossing actor in Hollywood in both 1932 and 1933 and the best loved comedienne of her time. “It is very important to preserve local heritage for future generations”, said Rick Miller, President and Chair, Marie Dressler Foundation. “When Marie met King Edward VII while performing in London, she informed him that she was born in Cobourg, Canada, the place where he, as a young Prince of Wales, had opened Victoria Hall in 1860”, added Miller.

The photograph will be officially unveiled in Citizens’ Forum on the 2nd floor of Victoria Hall by Mayor Gil Brocanier on Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at 2:30 p.m.

Marie is the star attraction of Canada’s newest interactive heritage museum recently opened here in Cobourg featuring “From Cobourg to Hollywood: The Story of Marie Dressler”. The museum is open Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Following the official ceremony, carrot cake from Buttermilk Café and refreshments will be served.
